Our history
T
he history of our company is full of coincidences that teach me the importance of being in the right place at the right time. I have always done my best and felt a great sense of responsibility for my work.
Looking back, maybe the trigger was that interview I did in the 1970s for Zahor chocolates. An opportunity that led to a chance meeting in which I was asked to distribute Grimalt cupcakes in Ibiza. Anyway, after the muffins I incorporated the distribution of nuts, and after the nuts, the olives came. All this, as I tell you, in a context of “unexpected encounter and proposal”.
After attending my first Alimentaria fair, the portfolio of products grew in the same way that the trust among my customers was increasing. In this story it is essential to mention the Bella Easo, a product that even made me consider becoming a cupcake manufacturer, just imagine!
My second visit to Alimentaria was undoubtedly revealing: it was there that I discovered Debic frozen cream. Stunned, I attended a demonstration that aroused my interest in the product: the closest thing I had ever seen in my life was shaving foam.
At the time, Ibiza had a connectivity and supply problem. The cream was fresh and there was no refrigerated distribution service, so the product almost always arrived in poor conditions. That was the moment when the “light bulb went on”, an adventure that led to renting the first cold room in Ibiza and reached the sale of 36 thousand liters of frozen cream in Ibiza.
After a few years, some chefs shared with me that the future lay in frozen vegetable products and not in canned products, as was usual on the island. At that time, I decided to make a visit to Valencia which, I confess, was more than productive: it marked a before and after for the company since -without any planning- I returned to Ibiza as an official Frudesa distributor. The rethinking of the business was total and it was at that moment that I rented the first large cold room that was located where today is the Hipercentro de la Carretera de San Antonio.
When I review our history I realize that I was always thinking about the next step and, naturally, the company grew. I opened a stall in the Mercado Nuevo, introducing a product to Ibiza that had never before been marketed outside the Lenten period: salted cod; we built the company’s first warehouse located on the Airport Road; and we went to the capital to get to know Mercamadrid and get our head into the distribution of fresh fish.
At the beginning of the nineties, we started in the world of bread and frozen pastries. This leap meant an exponential growth for both the commercial area and the volume of product and pushed us to improve and expand our facilities. Acquiring a new warehouse in Montecristo, our current headquarters, was an unquestionable decision as a result of our growth.
And I confess: nothing was premeditated, everything was circumstantial.
As in all stories, there are many anecdotes, company milestones, fruitful meetings and also wrong decisions. However, there is one point that has remained intact since I started on this path: the value of the word. Because it is something that I have also instilled in my children, who are now at the helm of the company. To be aware of the responsibility we have towards business. A professionalism that translates into seriousness and that, over the years, has earned us the trust of each and every one of our clients.
Now, the company continues to grow and evolve, and it fills me with satisfaction to know that I have created a high quality team that always reacts properly to the occasion.
The next step? To stay the course and continue, as always, to offer a high quality service. The rest, we will only know as the years go by.
